Ductless mini-splits are ideal heating solutions for people looking for new ways to keep various parts of their home heated. They are flexible, simple to install and can save you a great deal of money when used properly.
A ductless mini-split heat pump is composed of just three main components: a compressor, air handlers and a conduit. The compressor is kept outdoors and generates the conditioned air. The air handler (or evaporator) is kept in the area of your house that you want to warm. The conduit connects the two, bringing outside air in. It also contains the power cable, tubing and a condensate drain.
Because there is no ductwork system involved, energy losses aren’t likely with a typical forced air system. This is an important improvement because leaky ducts can be accountable for losing up to 30 percent of your conditioned air.
Ductless mini-splits are very easy to install. You simply need a three-inch hole in the wall of the area you want to warm for the conduit to pass through. The compressor can be kept up to 50 feet away and can be attached to up to four different air handlers so that it can be used to heat various parts of your home.
Each air handler has its own thermostat which gives you options in how you heat various rooms. They can be set to the desired temperature of the occupant without disturbing anyone, even if it differs from the temperature in the rest of the house.
Mini-split heat pumps are also very flexible and can fit into your living area very easily. They can be hung from the wall, suspended from a ceiling or simply placed on the floor. Many also come with sleek jackets so that they aren’t obnoxious eyesores. They only need to be running while the room is occupied and can be easily turned off with a remote control to conserve energy.
