Are you unsure of your home’s energy efficiency rating? Do you feel you could benefit from some energy-saving upgrades? The Energy Star Yardstick’s online program can help you find out how your home measures up, and what you can do about it.
The Energy Star program has been actively reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fuel bills for both homes and businesses across the United States. To date, the program has saved the equivalent of greenhouse gas emissions from 33 million cars and $18 billion on utility bills. And you can do your part to contribute to the conservation efforts by utilizing the Energy Star Yardstick online calculator.
Assessing your home
It’s easier than you think. All you need is approximately five minutes and your last 12 months of utility bills. You’ll input details on the square footage and energy sources for your home, such as electricity, natural gas, fuel oil, coal, propane, wood and/or kerosene.
Once you’ve entered the information, the Home Energy Yardstick then actively compares your home’s energy usage to similar homes throughout the country.
Professional guidance
If the results show your home isn’t quite up to par in the energy-saving department, don’t worry. Energy Star’s Home Energy Advisor can provide you with helpful tips, advice and guidance to help you enhance your home’s efficiency, increase comfort, and save you money. A few simple home improvements could make all the difference, and with the right energy saving upgrades, your home could even be awarded with the Energy Star label, increasing its overall market value.
