If you have an important repair that you need done on your heating and air-conditioning system, you don’t want to put it in the hands of an unproven or potentially underqualified contractor. You want someone who has faced similar situations and will be able to help you quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively. That’s why, when choosing a contractor, you should select one that hires technicians with NATE certification.
NATE (North American Technician Excellence) is the only certification program recognized by the entire heating, v
entilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry. There are many other certification programs, but none that meet the gold standard set by NATE.
In order to obtain NATE certification, a technician has to demonstrate both a knowledge of a wide variety of fields and the experience to properly apply it on the job. Technicians are rigorously tested on topics that range from air-conditioner and furnace maintenance, to energy efficiency and commercial refrigeration. They have to prove that, when confronted with a real-world problem, they can solve it in the most efficient manner possible.
When selecting an HVAC company, ask if their technicians are NATE-certified. If they hire both certified and non-certified technicians, request that they send certified staff members to your home or office.
Technicians with NATE certification usually display patches on their uniforms, and stickers on their service vehicles, as a sign of membership in an elite group. They must be recertified every five years to stay on top of emerging trends in the industry. This makes sure that they are able to offer the very best for their customers at all times.
