If you haven’t had the furnace inspected in your Twin Cities home this heating season, it’s not too late. Several months of furnace use remain ahead of us this winter, and a tuned-up furnace will help to keep utility bills as low as possible. Plus, an HVAC technician can identify any potential problems or issues that may balloon into larger ones with continued use.
Expect your HVAC technician to work through a long checklist of tasks during the furnace inspection, including:
- Verifying the thermostat is accurate
- Running a few system cycles to make sure it cycles on and off properly
- Ensuring airflow is even and adequate
- Tightening all electrical connections and replacing any that are frayed or damaged
- Lubricating all moving parts to reduce wear and tear
- Changing air filters
- Inspecting the fuel combustion system, burners and heat exchange systems
- Cleaning the blower motor and fan, vents, and any other parts that are dirty or have visible debris
- Inspecting the entire unit for visible signs of wear such as rust, cracks, corrosion, etc.

Annual furnace inspections allow the technician to repair or replace parts before they cause a system breakdown or compromise your indoor comfort.
Protect your warranty. There is a good chance your furnace and other HVAC equipment warranties depend on routine maintenance from a licensed HVAC technician. If your furnace breaks down or needs a replacement part, and you don’t have a paper trail showing it has been professionally serviced on a regular basis, the manufacturer may not honor the warranty.
